That is situational though since everyone has different types of friends

Like their voice for example?

I always figured that it's usually more comfortable to have a tulpa of the opposite sex, initially I considered making a guy tulpa but ended up with a girl
Avatar
I see. I was meant to be a male, as was my tulpa, but we both ended up being female. I do think it was easier to fill the role of behaving in a natural way that a female would.
Avatar
Female tulpas significantly outnumber male tulpas in general, as I recall.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:14 PM
Yeah, sort of like how male hosts outnumber female hosts
Avatar
In my most recent sample at least it’s about 3:1
Avatar
Yes - so do keep that in mind when pointing out the trend towards "opposite sex", hah.

I'm a trans man but my tulpa is male 🤔 I suppose this is due to me being biologically female or something (edited)
Avatar
Maybe a bit less but more than 2:1
Avatar
Yes, and that is because most tulpamancers are male, yes?
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:15 PM
Mhm
Avatar
Although, in my experience, female tulpamancers tend to have same sex tulpas more than males.
Avatar
I think the data does in general show a trend towards creating female tulpas more than male tulpas.

@Deleted User trans hosts overwhelmingly have tulpas of the same gender.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:16 PM
Huh, that's pretty interesting o:
Avatar
I think that perhaps it is because many people make tulpas for the sake of companionship, and women are stereotypically more empathic/caring.
Avatar
Perhaps.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/17/2018 5:17 PM
I would point towards either some inclination, either conscious or not, that the new gender is superior; or, a desire to not have a tulpa that dislikes any transition that is made.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:17 PM
Sort of reminds me how trans women tend to go more on reddit (a website with a more male userbase), while trans men tend to go more on tumblr (a website with a more female userbase) (edited)
5:17 PM
Yeah
Avatar
Excuse me, Buddy?
Avatar
I hypothesize that opposite-gender tulpas may in some cases be a catalyst or encouraging factor for gender dysphoria
Avatar
Because of that general belief, people would tend to make female tulpas as they believe one would be more companionable.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/17/2018 5:17 PM
yes, @Beckett ?
Avatar
Can you rephrase "would point towards either some inclination, either conscious or not, that the new gender is superior; or, a desire to not have a tulpa that dislikes any transition that is made"?
5:18 PM
I was slightly confused but it did seem interesting.
Avatar
so genuine question, if someone is a trans male....does that mean they're biologically male or female?
Avatar
They are female and are becoming male.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/17/2018 5:19 PM
I think that trans hosts overwhelmingly have tulpas of the same gender for one or both of these reasons: -Believing, consciously or not, that their current/new gender is superior in some way -A desire to not have a tulpa that is against any gender transition they make
Avatar
@Beckett I'm still confused...just give me the biological sex
Avatar
They are female.
5:19 PM
XX chromosomes.

ok

Trans male means that I was born female but am transitioning to male
Avatar
Are you transmale?
5:20 PM
Or were you only trying to explain?
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:20 PM
I am
Avatar
Interesting.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:21 PM
Also @bduddy #Diana# Yeah, the second reason does apply to me a little
Avatar
That is very interesting.

To your original question @Deleted User, it may have something to do with the desire to understand and express the part of them that is aspected to the opposite sex. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_and_animus
The anima and animus, in Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology, are the two primary anthropomorphic archetypes of the unconscious mind, as opposed to both the theriomorphic and inferior function of the shadow archetypes, as well as the abst...
5:21 PM
I dont know how to relate gender to this specifically cause I dont really care about it lol
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:22 PM
It would feel weird for me to make a female tulpa when I'm actively trying to pass as male. Maybe one day I would have a female tulpa, but now wouldn't be the time
5:22 PM
Ooh i will look
Avatar
It’s plausible, at least, that tulpa gender identity also bleeds over to influence some hosts
Avatar
What would you do, if you created a male tulpa and he wanted to be female?
Avatar
But people do not want to accept this possibility and I cannot look into it with a proper study
5:22 PM
Non-response bias too high
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 5/17/2018 5:23 PM
I should note that the second part also applies to the tulpa. Most tulpas tend to be pretty accommodating. (edited)
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:23 PM
I would still allow it, since I would want the tulpa to be happy. I don't ban female tulpas from my system or anything, but conciously making the decision to have one would be awkward for me
Avatar
Even when my host thought he was transmale, he did intend me to be male, originally, but that changed within a month and that was fine with her.
Avatar
@salad I certainly did aid Skye in deciding to transition, but she was already having those inclinations prior to my existing by several years.
Avatar
It did not trigger dysphoria, either, my existing.
Avatar
Anecdotal accounts are helpful but not very meaningful without a broader investigation into both patterns and perceptions. I am frustrated that I cannot do that and others have suggested I create a guised study at one point but I consider that unethical. Perhaps someone else can but it would be a breach of trust.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:26 PM
The idea of tulpas triggering dysphoria that the host may not have been aware of before seems like it would be interesting

At least we still have statistics from the polls
Avatar
Yes, large studies on this would help.
Avatar
Guised studies are sometimes necessary - mainly, the ethical portion is making sure that you aren't going to force large negative life changes on individuals or cause mental/physical harm.
5:28 PM
The study itself being under a guise is less of an issue.
Avatar
Perhaps. It would upset some people, though, and regardless of people’s opinions of me they still respect me enough to participate in my surveys. I don’t want to interfere with that
Avatar
See the studies on conformity for an example - people were informed that a test was about visual acuity, but it was actually about seeing whether they would conform to a group opinion even in the face of significant contradictory evidence.
5:29 PM
It mainly requires support after the fact in the case where it is necessary.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 5:31 PM
Sometimes I wish tulpamancy was more accepted and public, so we could have more studies about it
Avatar
I talked about this last night, yeah. To assign my name and credibility to formal published studies would put my career path at risk.
Avatar
Indeed.
Avatar
So I can’t conduct anything more formal

😔

I, too, wish that, Vincent.
Avatar
I think it will be, someday. It’s too good to be true and yet it is real.

I do feel like the community is slowly increasing, so hopefully
Avatar
I suppose.
Avatar
Had there been a poll about the ratio of people who tend to have opposite gender or same gender tulpas as them?
Avatar
The tulpa census, yes.

I'm female and my entire system is male :p

Thank

Question. When you guys wake up in the morning, how are your tulpas? Do they sleep? Do they wake you up? That kind of thing.
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 7:27 PM
Mine tends to wake up after me
7:27 PM
also in order to beat the norm I’m male and my tulpa looked like this

his name is Icon
7:28 PM
Shadow can be still asleep or he'll be up
7:29 PM
My other tulpa and I would fuck with icon by listening to Grateful Dead’s iko iko
Avatar
When we awaken we are not any tulpa in particular. We are simply the person over all. We do things that do not require conscious thought that would be attributed to either me or Angel, like putting on our glasses, for example. We then decide accordingly who will take over from that point.
Avatar
Emily doesn't sleep, nor does she wake me up
Avatar
Deleted User 5/17/2018 7:49 PM
I think it was random for me. Sometimes I was up first, while other times Craig was already awake (edited)
Avatar
Honestly, when I was very young and we had no one to ask, me and my host would run experiments that do seem silly now. One was about sleep. We wanted to see if when we switched, I could stay awake while he rested and then switch again and need far less actual sleep as a result. Of course, this did not work, but we had no one to ask.
9:47 PM
We did many things like that, which seem silly in retrospect.
Avatar
For me all "napping" does is give me a break. I have never swapped places with my host so I wouldn't know what that's like.

A bit of context: I have my eyes closed and am able to visualize the bathtub outlines. Also, for a little bit, I was visualizing things coming towards me. I also refresh my emotions in the shower. So, I was in the shower, having a one sided conversation with my tulpa, and I mentioned studying under taiwanese monks or whoever started the tulpa thing, and a sort of black thing covered my eyes and I was no longer able to visualize the outlines. This was one or two days ago, and I am still unable to visualize. What happened? Any ideas?

@account arhvided Cute. Your tupper may have covered your eyes attempting to perform a "Guess who?" thing.
2:21 AM
Being unable to visualize could be a result of worrying about it, or just a need for more practicing.
2:22 AM
Ask your tupper if it was them.
